Message from the Candidate

/Why run?

I believe in public service. I’ve spent the majority of my adult life in service to this country and to my community. When we moved to Maine, we found where we truly belong: a state with beautiful country and amazing, self-reliant people, who deserve better than party-driven politics.

Serving my friends and neighbors in Congress would be a great honor, and I will not let you down.

Inner liberty depends upon being exempt from domination of things as well as from domination of people. … This is our constant problem—how to live with people and remain free, how to live with things and remain independent.

- Abraham Joshua Heschel -

Core Positions

/What I Believe

Minimum government. Maximum freedom. After spending most of my adult life as a Democrat, I realized that what I wanted to achieve wasn’t going to happen under the same old binary choices. The deal was sealed after working for Johnson/Weld in 2016.

THE ECONOMY

I believe that the only proper role of government in the economic realm is to protect property rights, adjudicate disputes, and provide a legal framework in which voluntary trade is protected.

JUSTICE

Our system is overcriminalized, and our jails are crowded with people that don’t need to be there. I want to see behaviors not related to fraud or harm handled outside of the justice system.
I want justice for victim, accused, and convicted…every individual’s rights must be protected.

FOREIGN POLICY

As someone who has been part of America’s foreign policy “fist,” I believe we rely too much on our military and foreign intervention. Let trade and peaceful negotiation be our first recourse,
and let war only be a defensive act, except to remedy extreme human crisis.

I can personally speak to Brian’s intellect and thoughtfulness (something so lacking in much political debate these days), not only in his writing ... but in our correspondence over the years.
